Goodbye X/Twitter
My ability to concentrate has dwindled. My focus has become blunt. My sharp mind had become meek.
I thought I was clever.
I thought I could unfollow most of the accounts. I thought I could curate my feed. I thought I could hack Twitter or X.com so that it became a meaningful experience.
I lied to myself for years.
Although I only followed 10-40 accounts at most, the rapid-fire onslaught of multiple viewpoints from multiple people on numerous days was slowly eviscerating the subtle edges of the neural network inside my brain.
Every post seemed so interesting. But before I knew it, a new post would pop up that was even more interesting. And so the cycle went, week after week.
Slowly, the hues of my mind stream would take on the algorithm of X.com/Twitter - colouring my view of the world with a particular lens.
Years on Twitter will slowly influence your mind from the inside out in a way that's subtle, slow, and smooth - so much so that you barely notice.
A few days ago, I finally deleted my Twitter account.
I’ll take Facebook over Twitter for one major reason. Longer-form text will always beat short-form posts in terms of maintaing a better attention-span. Besides, Twitter is a place filled with influencers and strangers.
At the very least on Facebook, you often connect to people you know.
Goodbye Twitter/X.com.
I'm not coming back anytime soon.

So well said. I went off Twitter several years ago. Although I hate the personalised feed on FB I can at least hit delete but I have to be so aware as many of their algorithmic post are interesting but it is a rabbit hole an a deep one. Even Linkedin rarely sees me.
