The Hidden Benefits of Age-ing - Part II
A Poem on Time
We scrap with ourselves about the number
To signify the chapter in our stride
But time is non-linear when we’re living in our zest
Days, months and weeks can feel timeless when we’re feeling blessed
And years can go by in an empty dash when we’re feeling overwhelmed with stress
I remember when I was 29 years old. The creep and anxiety I felt about turning 30 was palpable.
I browsed internet sites dedicated to over 30-year-olds, just to get a glimpse into their views on getting older.
Some of these guys weren’t faring too well. Some were doing great. All the be it, I was giving a lot of importance to this upcoming milestone in my life.
There was this sense that by age 30 I was supposed to have my shit together. I was supposed to x, y, z. But I wasn’t doing it. Then I began to realise something…
Age becomes less of a concern if you’re exquisitely using your time as you go past your old limitations. But the more stuck you are in the same patterns, the more your age becomes a focus.
Time is a mental conception, but the passage or progress of events within this ever-present-now is seen and felt.
Time or life is drudgery sometimes. And uplifting other times. Time expands for some, it shrinks for others. Time enslaves some, time inspires others.
Time suffocates when we’re under anxiety. Time expands when’re in an expanded state of joy.
Perhaps the past isn’t as fixed as we believe.
Perhaps by changing the future; we can change our past.
Perhaps by changing how we align ourselves with the present moment, we can change more than we realise.
Time compounds good habits. It also compounds bad habits. The benefits of ageing become palpable when we compound the right decisions and habits. But there’s another slight edge, that most people are unaware of.
The quickest way to improve ‘time’ as we know it - is to get a blood test and check your Ferritin, D3, B9, and B12 and then work to get those scores up if they’re low.
They’re most likely not optimal. As an example, a year ago, my ferritin was just 30. It's now over 100 and that shift has made a huge difference. It’s impossible to thrive through the passage of time without the right biochemistry.
