The Ugly Truth behind the Beautiful Game
Part I of III
The consumption of sports media is the mechanism that makes it easier for the middle class to get wiped out.
People have this insidious feeling that the financial system rewards key professions unjustly, but rewards high-level athletes disproportionately.
Yet all incomes are largely based on supply and demand mechanics. What is worth questioning is the ‘demand’ side of the equation. Why are high-level athletes so in demand?
People have always sought an emotional outlet to help them disidentify from the suffering in their lives.
By watching athletes do amazing things, we get to experience a fleeting imitation of the flow state, as if we were the ones experiencing it.
When our team/favourite athlete isn’t doing so well, and then starts doing well again, we get to experience the drama of the up/down cycle. And with every game being somewhat unpredictable, we’re hooked.
Not only do sports stars mesmerise us into a pseudo-flow state, but they also opt us into a pseudo-tribal identity. A sense of fake belonging takes place. We identify part of our sense of self with the team or player that we support. And the news headlines chirp in. Our friends talk about the game. It all becomes a self-reinforcing cycle.
The opportunity cost of this consensus-based pattern is high. Instead of identifying with a small clan of real people we know on a shared mission, where each person contributes, millions of men prefer to identify with their select clan of men kicking/bouncing a ball on a screen, while they watch as bystanders.
Watching sports is the modern man’s gateway to a false sense of community, drama and belonging.
In porn, the words ‘cuck’ and ‘cuckoldry’ have become well-understood by the manosphere. For those who are uninformed, ‘cucking’ is the act of watching your partner get taken while you watch as a bystander.
With the consumption of sports entertainment, your internal world gets taken over - while your sovereignty watches on the sidelines. The 15 minutes of highlights and interviews, even if you don’t watch the full matches, take valuable mind-space that could otherwise be used for contemplation and other purposes.
Inevitably, you’ll build a useless bank of knowledge about the different players, stats, and tables, as well as future games.
You might get cucked while you watch the highlights. But the most jarring thing to accept is the worthless memories that last days and weeks in your mind’s eye - and in some cases, even a lifetime. The clips you watched will be out of date very soon. The cycle repeats ad infinitum. Nothing is truly learned. It’s all slipstream data that gets more worthless each day that goes by.
Replicate this neurocycle for millions of people around the world, and it becomes very easy to see how the middle class slowly gets disempowered.
There are various forces at work to disempower men.
However, the consumption of sports entertainment is a vital ancillary mechanism to stripping men of their own power.
Because they are being cucked without even realising it.
